What are lingual braces?
Lingual braces, like Incognito, are essentially the reverse of traditional braces. Lingual braces are attached to the back of your teeth, rather than the front. In much the same way as traditional braces, lingual braces use brackets, wires and elastic bands to adjust the positioning of your teeth.
What are the benefits of Lingual braces?
The most obvious benefit of lingual braces is that they are almost invisible. They are more discreet, and less obvious, than traditional braces. This makes them a great choice for patients who are more self-conscious about receiving treatment, particularly our older teens and adult patients.
As the braces are attached to the inside of your teeth, you’ll also avoid the discomfort that can sometimes arise when traditional braces irritate the inside of your lips. However, that being said, you may find that lingual braces can irritate your tongue. Sometimes we can mix and match your braces such as having invisible lingual braces on your top teeth and regular outside braces on your bottom teeth.
Lingual braces are often the treatment of choice for aligning lower front teeth where no other treatment is needed. This is a really popular choice for our older patients who want the benefits of straight bottom teeth.
