Corinna St Orthodontics

Types of braces

With the very latest orthodontic techniques, Dr Sam Whittle offers treatment options for children and adults that are customised to suit each person’s specific orthodontic needs.

Orthodontic treatment can be provided for children as early as seven years of age, while adult patients can have treatment well into their golden years. It’s never too late to straighten your teeth, refresh your smile and wear your teeth for the rest of your life.

At Corinna St Orthodontics, we treat three phases of orthodontic patients.

Interceptive orthodontics

Along with the Australian Society of Orthodontists, we recommend a child has their first orthodontic screening by seven to eight years of age. With early screening we are able to recognise and correct potential problems before they become serious.

Teenage orthodontics

Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for orthodontic treatment. By 12, most, if not all, of the permanent teeth are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected.

Many children in this age range undergo orthodontic treatment, and having braces is not seen as uncommon. This is also the time when children are growing rapidly, so we can usually take advantage of this growth to help shape the bite and teeth correctly.

Adult orthodontics

We regularly work with adult patients who have chosen to improve their smile, either for professional or personal reasons. We enjoy working with adults and are pleased to offer a number of orthodontic options that minimise the appearance of braces during treatment.

Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Improving the health of your teeth and gums is equally important. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint pain.

From metal or ceramic braces on the front of your teeth, to those which are attached to the back of your teeth, and clear aligners you can remove for eating and cleaning, there is a type of treatment to suit you as an individual. These include:

There are different types of braces because there are different types of people who have unique teeth.

We use the Tip-Edge Plus braces system because we believe it delivers the lightest possible pressure and force, ultimately creating a greater comfort factor for you during your orthodontic treatment. This system is also successful in providing the maximum tooth movement from start to finish, meaning reduced treatment times and fewer appointments.

There are many benefits and features of each of the treatments, which Dr Whittle will talk you through during your consultation.
